"Alright, take that pregnancy test again. Don't sleep."
Single Girl Tries the 100 Baby Challenge in The Sims 4 (more commonly known as the BuzzFeed Multiplayer 100 Baby Challenge or Kelsey's 100 Baby Challenge) is the third The Sims let's play created and produced by Kelsey Impicciche. It premiered on the BuzzFeed Multiplayer YouTube channel on December 20, 2018 and ended on March 27, 2021.[7][8]
The series follows Kelsey as she tries the 100 Baby Challenge in The Sims 4, in which the founder of the challenge, Chelsea Impiccishmay, is a Sim referenced to herself. The first season of the series had 50 episodes and is one of the longest seasons of any YouTube web series in history.[9] On the other hand, Season 2 premiered in April 2020 and had eight episodes while Season 3 premiered in September 2020 and had 26 episodes.[10][11]
Format[]
Synopsis[]
Chelsea Impiccishmay is the founder of the challenge and the matriarch for the first generation.
In Fears the End, Chelsea becomes an elder as Kelsey announces Kasey Impiccishmay to be the heir. In Throws a Wedding and a Funeral, Kasey officially becomes the matriarch for the second generation after aging up to a young adult. Later in the episode, Chelsea passes away from old age.
In Makes Her Final Choice, Kasey becomes an elder as Kelsey announces Kelly Impiccishmay to be the heir. In Tries the 100 Baby Challenge (Part 59), Kelly officially becomes the matriarch for the third generation after aging up to a young adult. Later in the episode, Kasey moves out the house.
Style[]
Each episode premieres every Saturday at 11:00 AM EST. In Has Twins, because a lot of fans have suggested their own names for the children, Kelsey started choosing the baby names from the comments under the previous episodes. Since then, the fans have been flooding baby name suggestions to Kelsey in all her social media platforms, including her personal Instagram posts, tweets, Twitch live streams, and even on her article in this wiki. However, Kelsey said she will only choose baby names from the ones under the YouTube videos.
Intro[]
Every episode starts on a short cold open before the title card, followed by the spiel:
Hey everybody! I'm Kelsey, I'm single (sup boys), and we thought it would be funny if I tried the 100 Baby Challenge. It's a challenge in The Sims 4, where you have one matriarch and they are supposed to have 100 children, all with different parents. There's a lot of rules to this challenge, so if you're interested in those, the link will be below.
Each part usually lasts for five to six days in-game, approximately three hours in real-time including pre-production (e.g. setting up equipment and game updates). Furthermore, the editor compresses them into 25 to 40-minute episodes. Sometimes, Kelsey delegates the editing in which the editor often inserts humourous sarcastic comments throughout the episode.
Gallery[]
At least once per season, Kelsey dedicates an episode to choosing fan-submitted households from the Gallery, except in Season 1 which was long enough to span over two generations of Sims, so Kelsey did another for the new matriarch.[12] For every about ten episodes starting Chooses a Fan's House for Her Babies, Kelsey dedicates one for house hunting, where she picks about 15 fan-submitted houses in which she features the house interiors before selecting the next home for the household. Incidentally, except Chooses a Fan's House for Her Babies (Part 53), house episodes always follow shortly after a major character death — Chooses a Fan's House for Her Babies, after the death of Craig Slater in Nurtures an Alien, Picks a Fan's Home for Her Babies after the death of Chelsea Impiccishmay in Throws a Wedding and a Funeral, Picks a Fan-Made Home for Her Babies after the death of Harry Impiccishmay in Has 2 Birthdays and a Funeral, and Picks a Fan's House for Her 100 Babies after the death of Wesley Impiccishmay in Dates Her Mom's Ex-Lover.
Thumbnails[]
Kelsey subtly follows a pattern in making the YouTube thumbnails which always depict herself in front of the pregnant matriarch wearing a classic red dress along with another prominent character in the episode. An exception to this is during transitional episodes, in which there is no active matriarch because the recent one aged up to elder and the heir is yet to become a young adult.
In these transitional episodes, the matriarch is shown as an elder in which the background has a gradient overlay instead of a plain color. Transitional episodes Finds Her Soulmate and Throws a Wedding and a Funeral do not have a gradient overlay, however.[13][14] Additionally, the transition from Chelsea to Kasey happened from Says Goodbye to Throws a Wedding and a Funeral while the transition from Kasey to Kelly happened from Makes Her Final Choice to Raises a Kleptomaniac Teen.
Moreover, the thumbnails of regular episodes have a polka dot background. Exceptions to these include the house episodes which feature a random house from the Gallery, the milestone episodes which have triangular party streamers as the background — Takes Her Family Camping celebrating ten babies, Has a 20-Child Reunion celebrating 20 babies, and Has 50 Babies celebrating 50 babies — and the reunion episodes which have their respective special background art — Births a Two-Headed Baby where the family had a Halloween party, Throws Her First Thanksgiving where the family had Thanksgiving dinner, and Throws Her First Christmas where the family had a Christmas party.
Furthermore, the polka dot background of thumbnails overlays a screenshot of the matriarch since Pilot, although it was discontinued after Tries for Triplets.[15]
Production[]
In a February 2020 interview by TheGamer about the series, Kelsey talked about how the show was created:[16]
Long ago, we [at BuzzFeed Multiplayer] figured out that our audience very much liked The Sims. I had just finished a season of In Control, which was my other show. I was looking for something to do, and I had been a long-time passionate watcher of other Simmers on YouTube. And I'd seen a lot of them do this challenge. And it was a weird title too — it's a very clickable, buzzworthy title too. I pitched [the idea] to the head of Multiplayer, and he said to go for it, saying "It's just one video, but if it doesn't do that well, it's not the end of the world." It was the end of the year [2018] and I was just trying to fill space and try new things. It made me really anxious because before that I was never the main and only character in probably almost any video. Whenever I produced videos or were in videos, I normally liked to surround myself with other people. But I was like, "I can just do it, because I'm free and I know The Sims the best out of anyone at BuzzFeed." So we shot the first episode, and I think as we were deciding upon doing it, the lead at Multiplayer said, "Why don't we title it Single Girl Tries the 100 Baby Challenge." We had done a video called Single Girls Find Their Dream Daddy […] and that did pretty well. People liked the aspect of being single — it's pretty relatable, either you've been there or you're currently there. [I thought] it would be a funny juxtaposition of a single person having this many people. I edited the whole first episode and thought it was really funny. [I thought to myself] "I had a lot of fun doing it, so I hope people liked it!" Over holiday break — I wasn't even in the office when it went out — I remember seeing it and being completely floored by the reaction that people loved it! Because it was just me, for 15 minutes talking about and playing The Sims. I was very pleasantly surprised. And I thought, "Well great, if this does well, then I can just do this forever." And that's kind of what happened! And we went a full year before I decided to take a break.
The pilot episode went no. 1 trending on YouTube, as well as the episodes that followed and created a huge demand for fans, who requested for more episodes in a week. On February 5, 2019, Kelsey released an announcement about the show's first spin-off, Remodels Her Children's Home, as well as a statement on Twitter saying she and her team can only do one episode at a time. Since then, from Raises a Teen, show started to become regular on BuzzFeed Multiplayer every Saturday at 11:00 AM EST.
Moreover, Kelsey talked about the most surprising thing for her about the 100 Baby Challenge:[16]
The fandom. I love fandoms; I'm a very passionate nerd, and I'm a part of a ton of fandoms. It's interesting to me in thinking about fandoms on YouTube, because it's kind of difficult. It was so cool because I accidentally cultivated a fandom. Certain things that I just did out of necessity meant a lot to people. Like the garden salads - like that didn't mean anything to me, it was just the cheapest [meal option] that would keep my character healthy. Because in The Sims, characters tend to gain weight, especially when you're getting pregnant that often. And I knew that, so I thought, "I'll just feed [Chelsea] a garden salad so the food doesn't [add] to that." And that's why I did that. And everyone just thought I was weirdly obsessed with them. It was all part of logical thinking, but I didn't explain it. There's a lot of things [that fans have latched onto] - like I have yellow chairs in my home. It's interesting how so many little things that I didn't even put that much effort or thought into really struck people and made people fall in love with [the series]. It was really gratifying to watch it unfold and see all the inside jokes.
Furthermore, according to Kelsey, her meet-and-greet with the fans of the series in VidCon 2019 was one of her most fulfilling moments in doing the show:[16]
I got teary-eyed and emotional because it was so cool to see people who were so passionate and loved the content that I made. It's very behind-the-screen and a lot of times it just feels like a numbers game. And sometimes you can forget about the face that's there. So that was really special.

Personal preferences[]
The following lists the personal preferences Kelsey made throughout the let's play, which alters the pace and level of difficulty in comparison to the typical 100 Baby Challenge. Kelsey made most of these preferences to challenge herself:
- Being frugal (e.g. always cooking the cheapest meal, garden salad and preparing only one cake per episode for multiple age-ups)
- Opting out of the occult rule
- Having children only with single people
- Preferring variety with the children/teen's skills (most of the time depending on their traits)
- Not using clubs in meeting baby-daddies
- In Tries to Save Her Son, she mentioned she will not do gardening as an extra source of income for the family because it is too much work.
- In Freezes to Death, Kelsey considered the idea having a maid to clean the house, but she brushed the idea off saying she feels weird not to do it by herself.
- No reward traits (e.g. the traits that eliminate the bladder, hunger, or energy needs, i.e. Steel Bladder, Hardly Hungry, and Seldom Sleepy, respectively)
- Preferring not to use deaderpool's MC Command Center mod (or mods in general)[17]
- No pets in order to save household space
